Conference treasurer to retire in 2010
Written: 9/24/2009 WICHITA—Kansas West Conference Treasurer Debbie Maltbie has announced plans to retire in 2010. Maltbie, who has worked for the conference for 18 years, will reduce her hours beginning Nov. 1 and stay on through the spring of 2010 to allow for completion of the conference office fire recovery and the hiring of her replacement. “I am grateful for Debbie’s superb leadership during a difficult time in the conference office,” said Kansas Area Bishop Scott Jones. “Debbie’s leadership has enabled the Kansas West Conference to maintain good financial condition during her tenure as conference treasurer. She will be missed.” Maltbie’s husband, Dale, is retiring in October, and she decided to begin her own transition to retirement with him. “I have really enjoyed meeting and working with people all throughout the state and denomination over the past 18 years,” Maltbie said. “I know that I will miss those connections.” Maltbie credits the generosity of United Methodists in the Kansas West Conference with making her job as treasurer less difficult, especially during lean years in the Kansas economy. A search committee for a new conference treasurer has been established. Rev. Rick Saylor, Hutchinson District superintendent, will lead the search. The goal is to have someone hired and in place by May 1.
