Nearly 50 men from the Kansas West Conference travelled to Nashville, Tenn., this summer to join more than 1,200 men from around the country at the 10th Annual National Gathering of United Methodist Men.

The gathering focused on three relationships: God to man, man to man and man to boy.

The final keynote speaker was Rev. Dr. Kevass Harding, pastor of Dellrose United Methodist Church in Wichita. Harding spoke on man-to-boy relationships and the importance of men mentoring young boys. He stressed that we needed to approach discipling as “spiritual fathers” who reproduce faith into the next generation. He challenged the audience to become a part of some young person’s life and disciple that boy into spiritual maturity.

The Kansas West Conference United Methodist Men president, Loyd Hamrick, joined Mark Scott in leading a workshop for mentoring children of promise through the Big Brothers Big Sisters Amachi movement.

I led workshops on becoming a Men’s Ministry Specialist so that we can lead our churches in mentoring men. The specialist position was created by the General Church United Methodist Men for laity to serve in ministry.
