Missionary to Mongolia visiting Kansas in October
Helen Sheperd, a General Board of Global Ministries missionary in Mongolia, will visit several churches in Kansas, including Countryside UMC near Wakefield Oct. 22. Sheperd comes from Missouri and serves in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

Sheperd, a nurse, directs the Grace Hospice home-care program. Her primary focus is on improving the quality of care and the depth of faith of the staff working in the hospice.

Good $ense leader training
The Kansas Area United Methodist Foundation with the Kansas East and West conferences’ boards of discipleship will present Good $ense: The Leader/Teacher Budget Course Training Oct. 23-24 at the foundation office in Hutchinson.

This is transformational stewardship. The result is a congregation whose finances and lives are characterized by grace, joy and freedom.

The registration fee is $75 for first registrant and $25 for each additional person from the same church.

Holland Preaching Series
Kansas Area Bishop Scott Jones will be the featured speaker at the 23rd Annual Holland Preaching Series Oct. 25 and 26 at Anthony UMC, 225 N. Bluff in Anthony, Kan.

Sunday morning at the 10:50 a.m. service, Jones will preach on "God and Coherence." At 1:30 p.m., he will provide an overview of Bishop Robert Schnase's "Five Practices of Fruitful Congregations." At 7 p.m., Jones' sermon will be "God and Connection."

Monday's 7 p.m. service sermon will be "God and Agency."

Music will be performed by the Southwest Gospel Choir and Slane.

The Kansas Area Resource Center’s entire on-site inventory lost in the May 19 conference office fire. But many popular items are available because they were checked out to churches at the time of the fire.

UMCOR distributes relief supplies in Philippines
United Methodists have been working to get emergency supplies to families affected by Typhoon Ketsana in the Philippines.

Volunteers are preparing supplies at UMCOR's Philippines Office in Cavite, about 50 miles south of Manila. Nearly 2 million people in the Manila area were affected by the flooding from the late September storm, which at one point left most of the capital city under water and resulted in the deaths of nearly 300 people in the Philippines.
