Help feed the hungry Nov. 1
Kansas is ranked as the ninth-highest state for household hunger, and nearly two-thirds of food-insecure households have at least one family member employed full-time. But donations to the “Hunger Sunday” offering will help fill sacks with food at United Methodist agencies in Kansas as well as assist the Haiti Hot Lunch Program.

‘Here I Am, Lord,’ course new start date is Jan. 24
Lay people can still join the “Here I Am, Lord: Discovering Your Call to Serve God!” course. The start date for the course has been rescheduled for Jan. 24 in the Kansas West Conference.
The Kansas Area program is designed for laity who feel God calling them to greater service in the church. The program will help participants learn more about opportunities to preach and lead. Small and rural congregations, in particular, can benefit from the program.

H1N1 Virus/Swine Flu: What to do and what not to do in worship
News about the H1N1 Virus/Swine Flu had diminished after the early scare of the late spring flu season. With the fall flu season upon us, it is expected that viruses will have new opportunities to spread.
Although this virus was declared “pandemic” in June 2009, that term means only that the disease has been shown to be spreading simultaneously on two or more continents. “Pandemic” does not mean “deadly.”
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention notes that the primary means by which this virus spreads is by airborne particles from coughs or sneezes and by skin-to-skin contact spreading these particles.
The General Board of Discipleship has posted an article on what to do and not to do in worship during the flu season. Read the article at http://www.gbod.org/worship/default.asp?act=reader&item_id=48027&loc_id=9,824.
