About the UMC MISSION: The mission of the United Methodist Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. (Adopted by General Conference 2008)
Following this Uniting Conference, the many annual conferences of the two denominations began the process of unification on a local level. Kansas West United Methodist Conference was one of the first to do so on July 30, 1968, at First United Methodist Church in Wichita. Bishops W. McFerrin Stowe and Paul W. Milhouse presided over the uniting conference. Headquartered in Wichita, today’s Kansas West United Methodist Conference is comprised of 387 churches, 376 clergy members and more than 88,000 lay members. Through making disciples, discovering spiritual gifts and developing leaders, the Kansas West United Methodist Conference has a vision for the future of a spiritually alive network of faith communities that live out the call of Jesus Christ through ministries of education, witness and compassion.
