Conference Opportunities The Three Councils: Connectional Ministries Council- Coordinates the mission of the Annual Conference to support local churches as they make disciples for Jesus Christ and to provide guidance and direction for those ministries which can be done most effectively through a united effort; gives direction for ministries of Leadership Development and Nurture, Outreach and Witness. Marketing and Communications Council - Develops and implements a marketing strategy for the Annual Conference; assists local churches, ministry clusters, districts and Conference agencies with marketing and communication efforts. Council on Finance and Administration- Develops and administers fiscal and administrative policies for the Conference; develops the Conference budget.
Committees, Boards and Commissions: Personnel Committee - Hires all employed personnel of the Annual Conference. Area Committee on Cooperative Ministries - Supports efforts of two or more congregations to develop and serve through formal and informal relationships. Board of Church and Society - Provides education and action on issues confronting the church consistent with the Social Principles and policies adopted by General Conference. Commission on Discipleship - Supports local churches, clusters and districts in ministries of Christian Education, evangelism, family life, stewardship and worship and devotional life. Commission on Christian Unity and Interreligious Concerns - Advocates and works for the unity of the Church; encourages dialogue and cooperation with people of other living faiths; works closely with Kansas Ecumenical Ministries. Council on Youth Ministries - Provides leadership training, gatherings and hands-on mission opportunities for high school and middles school youth. Council on Young Adult Ministries - Strengthens young adult in the districts and local churches. Board of Global Ministries: World, National and Conference Ministries - Interprets the global mission of the United Methodist Church; develops support for mission agencies within the bounds of the Conference; encourages short and long term missionary service. plans for the development of new congregations and the revitalization of existing churches. Congregational Growth and Development - Plans for the development of new congregations and the revitalization of existing churches. Commission on Institutional Ministries - Monitors the relationship with colleges, retirement communities and youth and child care facilities related to the Conference and encourages support for them; supports ministry on state campuses. Commission on Camping Ministries - Develops and administers the camping program for children, youth and adults. Commission on Religion and Race - Works with Conference boards and agencies to promote and develop racial inclusiveness; provides education and sensitization to the nature and meaning of racism. Commission on Status and Role of Women - Provides information and sensitization on issues that affect women. Committee on Disability Concerns - Develops programs to meet the needs of people with disabilities; provides resources for local churches developing ministries that are attitudinally and architecturally accessible. Committee on Native American Ministries - Promotes Native American Awareness Sunday and monitors Native American ministries within the conference Board of Equitable Compensation - Administers policies concerning parsonages, housing allowances and pastoral moves; administers the Equitable Compensation Fund. Board of Pensions - Administers the pension, health insurance and other benefit programs of the Annual Conference. Board of Trustees - Receives and manages property, bequests and donations on behalf of the Annual Conference. Area Committee on the Episcopacy - Provides support and counsel for the bishop; interprets the Episcopal office. Conference Structure Committee - Evaluates and recommends changes in the Annual Conference structure; consults with the Cabinet concerning district boundaries. Sessions Planning Committee - Develops and implements plans for the Annual Conference Session. Commission on Archives and History - Maintains the history of the Annual Conference; supports local churches in gathering and maintaining their histories. |
