“As we make disciples of Jesus Christ, the Kansas West Conference calls God’s people to invite through radical hospitality, excite for intentional faith-sharing and unite in risk-taking mission for the transformation of the world.” – Kansas West Conference vision adopted May 2008 The present Kansas West United Methodist Conference was formed in 1968 by the merger of the Kansas Conference of the Evangelical United Brethren Church and the Central Kansas Conference of the Methodist Church. The conferences were combined through the unification of the Evangelical United Brethren and Methodist denominations in April 1968. Headquartered in Wichita, today’s Kansas West United Methodist Conference is comprised of 375 churches, 376 clergy members and more than 88,000 lay members. It covers the state of Kansas from U.S. Highway 77 west to the eastern Colorado border. The United Methodist Church “The mission of the United Methodist Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.” – Adopted by the General Conference of the United Methodist Church, 2008 The United Methodist Church was formed in 1968 through the unification of the Evangelical United Brethren and Methodist denominations April 23 through May 6, 1968. Following this Uniting Conference, the many annual conferences of the two denominations began the process of unification on a local level. Kansas West United Methodist Conference was one of the first to do so on July 30, 1968, at First United Methodist Church in Wichita. Bishops W. McFerrin Stowe and Paul W. This symbol relates the church to God by way of the second and third persons of the Trinity; the Christ (cross) and the Holy Spirit (flame). ‘Four Areas of Focus’ video An exciting vision of United Methodist ministry and mission for the 21st century is unfolding. “Four Areas of Focus,” a nine-minute video, features:
