E-mailing Photos for Publication Submission

For print publication, the original, unedited, uncompressed photo files need to be sent as e-mail attachments. Do not use photo-share programs, such as Kodak Easyshare. Do not insert the photos in a Word document or in the body of the e-mail.

If the photos are on the memory card of the camera, insert the memory card into a card reader that’s plugged into your computer or connect your camera to your computer using your USB cable.

Then, right click on the Windows "Start” button on the lower left corner of the computer screen. Choose "Explore,” then browse through the drives that come up on screen.

When you find the correct drive, there will be a folder or folders that contain the photo files. These will be .jpg files.

Copy the files to your computer, either in a folder on the C drive or to your desktop. The important thing is to know where they are.

If the photos are already on your computer, simply browse for them within the e-mail program. However, please be sure the files are the original file photos--just as they came off the camera.

From the e-mail program, open a new message, choose attachment and browse through your computer hard drive or desktop for the file(s) to attach. These are general e-mail instructions, since e-mail programs vary in what functions are named.

Depending on the Internet connection, photo files may need to be sent with separate e-mails.

Select the file(s), then include the photo information in the body of the e-mail. Identify the people in the photo from left to right and give the photographer's name. Be sure to check name spellings.
